a list of some books I’ve read this year.
This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire
There has been so much hype surrounding this book so I was skeptical as to whether it was worth a read. I underestimated this book’s power to convey the emotions that come with being in love with someone, as well as the feelings that come before and after being in a relationship with that person. This book made me feel things I haven’t felt in a while, it left me breathless in places, it made me reflect on the way all of my relationships have changed me, and it also made me miss some people.
Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
I listened to this whole series of the course of my winter break, and I’m pretty sure it is for kids but it offered me some escapism every night for a while, so there’s that I guess. My only advice with this series is not to watch the film, because it is just the worst.
Elena Vanishing by Elena Dunkle
This book made me cry. Its honesty. Its voice. Its bravery. This book is probably the closest I will get to even beginning to know what it could possibly like to live with an eating disorder. This book is important.
GIRL UP by Laura Bates
I am so here for this book, I mean who doesn’t want tap dancing vaginas (They’re Vulvas!), and swear feminist ideas. I loved Everyday Sexism, and this book taught me even more about what it means to not only be a feminist but also what it means to be a woman in an era of catcalling and Trump.
